P. 2
Welcome
Welcome to the Cowboy Cut Bull Sale.
We are proud of our legacy here at Bar JV Angus. It all began
with Jim’s Grandpa Bill in the early 1930s. God has blessed
us with the sixth generation of Vitts now growing up and
ranching on the same land.
For the past 44 years we have remained focused on developing a solid foundation of quality Angus genetics. Our mission is to raise
cattle for the commercial cowman while focusing on what is important to a commercial operation: low maintenance cows with
longevity that produce pounds at weaning. Breeding elite Angus females who produce high-performance bulls for the profi tability
of commercial cattlemen is the goal.
While the American Angus Association has provided us with a great set of selection tools, there are traits that we require beyond
EPDs. Structural soundness, good feet and udders are fundamental for longevity. Disposition and maternal instincts are also
essential. Breeding bone into our cattle to enable them to handle the amount of growth that is found in today’s genetics. Another
thing we look for is a long neck and smooth shoulders, which ensures calving ease. We consider calving ease to be bred in to our
cowherd. While we feel that every bull provides calving ease, we realize that not every bull is a heifer bull.
The bulls are fed in our own feedlot here at the ranch. We choose not to push our bulls hard on feed. We want them to gain about
2.75 to 3 pounds per day. This ensures that they will last for many years. The bulls were fed a high-roughage ration consisting of
alfalfa, grass hay, silage, whole oats, cracked corn and beet pulp. Flex-Lic tubs were also offered to improve semen quality. We are
really excited about this group of bulls. We feel that they are a really uniform set. Some of
the birth weights were a little heavy last year but that was due to the winter and how much
we had to feed. We are confi dent in the fact that everyone has calving ease bred in for
generations.
We encourage you to go to www.barjvangus.com to view videos of the bulls. The bulls
are fertility tested by High Plains Veterinary Clinic in Sidney, Montana. A selection of the
bulls were 50K tested. A supplement sheet with the genetically enhanced EPDs and scrotal
information will be available on sale day.
You are welcome to come by the ranch early to view the bulls, heifers or the cows, we
would love to show you our operation. We are always happy to
discuss any questions you may have about our program or the
cattle. If you are unable to attend, please don’t hesitate to call
us or one of the representatives to help you with bull selection
or your bids.
Thank you for your interest in our program. We look forward to
seeing you on sale day.
